December Newsletter

Well the holiday season is upon us, which means a calendar full of festive fun!

HOLIDAY BASKETS

Parent Council is running a Holiday Basket Fundraiser this holiday season. Our class themes are: Arts & Crafts and Sports. If you could help contribute to either of the classroom baskets it would be very much appreciated! They are asking that all donations are collected by Friday December 4th.

HOLIDAY CONCERT

There will be 2 shows to choose from a daytime performance on December 15th at 9:30am and a nighttime performance on December 16th at 7:00pm. We will be performing two songs: Candy Cane Kid (in English) and Quand le Pere Noel (in French). Below please find the YouTube version of our French song (unfortunately, I wasn't able to find a version of the Candy Cane Kid).

HOLIDAY CRAFTS

During the last week before the break, the primary kids will be participating in a Holiday Craft. Mme. McNamara and I will be taking them down to the office to choose which crafts they would most like to complete. The organizing teachers try their very best to get them to at least 2 of their preferences.

During English instruction we will be focusing on the following:

MATH

We will be continuing our unit on addition and subtraction through to the holiday break. For ways you can help your child with this concept, please see the math section of my website for some ideas and the curriculum expectations for this unit.

LANGUAGE

In writing, we are focusing on a personal narrative. A personal narrative is a story that focuses on and retells a small moment in your life. As we learn about personal narratives, we will be continuing to focus on writing conventions like: letter formation and the appropriate use of lower and upper case letters, correctly spelling sight words, listening for the sounds we know when sounding out unknown words, finger spacing and rereading our work for simple editing.
